Whether you want to find your one true love or whether you’re more interested in casual dating, there’s a dating app for you.
Almost anything is possible on a smartphone or tablet these days, and that includes finding love! Where once we couldn’t have imagined finding a new love interest by using an app, nowadays it’s a commonplace, and many of us use dating apps in our quest for romance. Of course, while some may ultimately be looking for marriage not everybody is ready for a serious relationship, and dating apps are still a great option for those who simply want some pleasurable fun.
There’s an enormous amount of dating apps on the Google Play Store, so if you have an Android smartphone or tablet that’s the place to go! While many of them work in similar ways, others offer a bit of a twist, and we’ve been working our way through many of them (strictly professionally of course!) in a bid to find the best ones available. If you’re ready to join the dating scene, you could find your perfect partner by checking out these best dating apps for free on Android. All are free to download and use, though some offer extra features through the use of in-app purchases or subscriptions.
We couldn’t produce a list of the best dating apps for free without including the infamous Tinder app, which claims to have made over 20 billion matches so far. If you want to meet new people, this is the place to come, although it’s worth saying that many of the matches made here are of the more casual variety. Tinder is known for its swipe right feature if you like what you see, or you can pass by swiping left. If the person you’ve liked mutually likes you back, bingo, it’s time to chat with your match and maybe decide if you want to meet up in person. It’s a deceptively simple process, and that’s what makes this a great app, and it also has a user-friendly clean-looking interface.
The app is free to download and use, but there are more options available for upgrades to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold through in-app purchases. For example, Tinder Plus offers unlimited Swipe Right’s and features such as Passport or Rewind, while Tinder Gold offers additional profile controls, the option to see who likes you without you having to like them first, and much more.
2. TRYDATE – FREE ONLINE DATING APP, CHAT MEET ADULTS
TryDate has a high 4.4-star rating on the Google Play Store and offers something a little different to other dating apps. You can check out profile photos in your location or perhaps somewhere you plan to visit, and like Tinder, if you like someone based on their personality and they like you back, it could be a match.
The unique point here is that you won’t see their profile image or know who they are at first, and gradually as you chat and interact a pixelated picture is gradually revealed. At this point, you’ll be able to see their full profile and more. Unusually for a dating app, this one is completely free to use, and there are no in-app purchases. Further features include hub promotions, the ability to direct message others without having to wait for a match, the ability to revise chat messages and more.
3. OKCUPID DATING
You may well have heard of OkCupid as it’s an extremely popular dating app. It works in a more traditional way, with answers to questions and algorithms creating developed profiles, and so will weed out real deal breakers to save you time and make it easier to find matches to suit you. One of the best points of the app was its unique messaging system, and this is currently in the process of being updated, and although we note some gripes about the effectiveness of this from existing users, it seems worth sticking with it to see how it develops.
The app is free to download and use, but if you want more, you can opt for a premium subscription. By doing this, you can get rid of the ads, see who likes you without the need to like them first, use advanced filters and more.
4. CMB (COFFEE MEETS BAGEL) FREE DATING APP
While dating apps using the swiping method have been really popular, this one offers a different approach and saves you from having to do all of the metaphorical legwork. Instead, if you’re a guy, at noon every day you’ll receive a Bagel (aka potential match) that has been especially preselected for you based on your provided information about yourself, your interests, and your social network (you’ll need to authenticate via Facebook). If you’re a gal you’ll receive a Bagel from those who have expressed an interest in you.
The app is also LGBTQ-friendly, in which case both men and women can receive preselected matches at noon each day. Following this you can chat in a private room, and if you’re someone who gets stuck thinking of questions the app even offers you some icebreakers to talk about. Users can also earn ‘beans,’ for additional functionality and features. This can be done by recommending the app to friends or for consistent use of the app, or you can buy beans with in-app purchases.
5. HAPPN – LOCAL DATING APP
Offering a unique way of linking up, the Happn app is really worth checking out. We’ve all had experiences coming across someone, that we’d like to hook up with but don’t feel we can approach. For instance, how about that cute guy in front of you in the supermarket line, or what about that kooky girl sitting in front at the movies. If you are using the Happn app and cross paths with someone else that has also downloaded the app, you will receive their profile on your timeline.
You can see how often you’ve come across them as well as where and when it happened, and if you choose to you can send a secret like to that person or use a credit to send a “Hi.” If they like you too, it’s a crush (match), and you can take things from there. You’ll receive a certain number of “Hi’s” when you start using the app and can purchase more through in-app purchases. The main drawback with Happen is that the app needs to be popular enough so you can make connections with those in your area, but it’s interesting enough to give it a whirl.
6. BADOO – FREE CHAT & DATING APP
The makers of this app claim that it’s the world’s biggest dating network, with more than 400,000 newbies joining every day. It’s certainly expansive as it covers 197 countries and 47 languages, and it aims to offer a safer method than some other dating apps as all profiles and photos are verified. The idea behind Badoo is to connect people with other Badoo users close by, thereby saving the need for a special meet up at another time. Meeting this way means a more relaxed approach rather than having to gather your nerves, as you’re already out and about, so it takes the pressure off. You may also be with friends, as might the person you meet, so it’s all much more informal.
7. CLOVER DATING APP
Clover is one of the newer dating apps on the scene and is slowly building a good reputation. Although it’s a dating app, it’s also popular with those who are just looking for new friends, or those who want to find out about local parties and events. It offers a quick way of setting up dates with the On-Demand Dating feature and has powerful search filters, and you can chat free with matches or join a chat room to talk with other single people who share the same interests as you.
8. JAUMO FLIRT CHAT & DATING
We particularly like Jaumo because of its easy sign-up, filtering system, and appealing interface that makes it easy to see those who have taken a look at your profile and liked you. Instead of being bombarded (hopefully!) with messages, the filtering system makes it easier to restrict the messages to those you are more likely to want to hear from. Search results can be limited to those currently online, those providing a profile picture, or those in your location, and the app has a nice community feel about it. There’s plenty here that’s totally free, but if you want more you can try out a premium version for seven days before choosing whether to upgrade with in-app purchases.
9. ZOOSK DATING APP: MEET SINGLES
The first thing to say about this app is that although it’s free to download you’ll need to buy coins if you want to make your profile more visible and there’s also a subscription model (more about that later). Nevertheless, this is still one of the best dating apps for free, and it’s great for browsing through singles and to find those to meet and chat with. Features include Zoosk’s Behavioral Matchmaking technology, Personalized SmartPick, which as it sounds gives introductions based on your preferences, and Zoosk Photo Verification, a neat touch as you can submit a video selfie that will show you look just like the images you submitted!
The app also offers a subscription service (1-month $29.99, 12-months $99.99), and if you choose this you can see the profiles of those who have viewed you, chat with other subscribers and more.
10. MINGLE2: ONLINE DATING & CHAT
Are you searching for your one and only, looking for someone to date casually, or simply wanting to hangout with a new friend? If so, Mingle2 could be the app for you, as it has no limits on the number of interactions you have on the app. Therefore, you have the ability to send and receive an unlimited amount of messages, an unlimited amount of nudges, winks, and hugs, and to add an unlimited number of new friends. You can also find people nearby, chat online, receive recommended matches, and play Mutual Match, all for free.
Those using the app are strictly monitored, and it’s easy to block someone with just one click, so you feel secure in the Mingle environment. Hopefully, that won’t be necessary, as we found plenty of friendly people using this app.
After extensive use of the above apps, we can say hand on heart that it’s never been easier to find someone to match up with and date. Everybody is looking for someone with the different qualities they desire, and the sheer amount of people using these dating apps means it’s much easier than ever before to find that special someone. If you download any of these best dating apps for free on Android we’d love to hear what success you have, so why not send us a comment and let us know if your dating life has taken a turn for the better?
