Google has started to deliver latest version of Andorid OS Ice Cream Sandwich to Nexus S devices. At the moment all GSM/UMTS Nexus S getting the Android 4.0.3 update, CDMA Nexus S owners will have to wait more for the update. Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S gradually rolling out to different regions, if your device not showing any notification for the update yet, don’t worry as it will be available soon to all region. By the time you may manually checkout going Settings > About phone > System update. Once the update become available, be sure to get it done through wi-fi network so you can save a large amount of data on your plan.

  1. Download the official Android 4.0.3 ICS zip and rename it to ‘update.zip’
  2. Copy the renamed file to your Nexus S and make sure to place in root directory, not inside any other folder
  3. Power off your Nexus S and boot it into recovery mode (Hold down Volume Up+Power button together, you will enter in fast boot mode, using volume buttons navigate to Recover and select with power button, you should enter in to recovery mode)
  4. Now from Nexus S recovery menu chose update from SD card and select the ‘update.zip’ file you copied before with power button. Rest of the things will be done by automatically.
  5. Once the updating process get done just re-boot the phone and you will be welcome by Andrid Ice Cream Sandwich.

    updated …but my phone got stuck at the ice cream sandwich screen booting for like 5 mins now …still booting….is it supposed to taking that long to boot and upgrade to the new system?

    I just did as above and didn’t work. In my screen appear an Alert symbol and nothing happened. What is going on?

      after alert symbol appear you may need to hold down volume up button following with power button

    Worked a charm for me.
    Loving ICS 4.0.3. on my Nexus S.
    Had to uninstall google+ cause it kept saying “error” but otherwise all good.
    I’d also advise setting screen brightness to auto and timeout to 30 seconds.

    I installed 4.0.1 on my Nexus S a few weeks ago and this update won’t work for me as it is looking for the 2.3.6 version during the upgrade…
    any ideas?

    I tried to update, I even overcome the alert symbol challenge, and once I get to aply from sd.. it stars by:
    Installing/sdcard
    Finding update package…
    Opening update package…
    Verifying update package…
    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted…

    What should I do next for this to work. I am currently running on Android 2.3.6
