The latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.4 will probably be the last update as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now available for manufacturers to build updates. Unfortunately many devices that have been updated to Android ICS still run older version of 4.0.3. International HTC One X owners are lucky as the manufacturer just released an update which brings improvements and fixes with latest version of android ICS.
Android 4.0.4 is being rolled-out for the HTC One X as we speak. Among many improvements it will allow users to map menu functionality to the lower right ‘recent app’ key. It also brings white balance and continuous autofocus improvements within the camera app. Stability improvements as well as a dedicated tab switcher for the built-in browser have also been included in the update. Regarding the menu button mapping HTC had this to say:
“The primary update will include an upgrade to Android version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), in addition to an improved Sense experience which will: enable the ability to map menu function to the ‘recent app’ key (improving visual presentation in non ICS apps like Facebook)”
The update also brings a new version of HTC’s custom skin. Sense 4.1 was leaked a while back and it brings the much needed performance improvements. HTC has decided to get rid of the 3D aspect involved with launching applications that causes lags which some have experienced. HTC One S and other Sense 4.0 devices also expected to get the update in coming weeks with HTC Sense 4.1 UI.
